Food on Camping Trek
Three meals a day, plus afternoon hot drinks with biscuits, are provided on our camping treks. We will provide a tasty, nutritious mixture of Nepalese, Indian and Western food prepared hygienically by our trekking Cooks who are masters at preparing foods under less then ideal conditions. As much as possible we try to use locally-sourced fresh vegetables, but you must be aware that a wide variety is sometimes unavailable in remote areas, and then we must rely on pre-packaged products taken out from Kathmandu. On celebratory occasions, such as a trekker's Birthday or Anniversary, Christmas, New Year, etc., a special cake will be prepared on the trek by our experienced cook.
If you have any special food requirements, we must be informed of these. For example if you suffer from Coeliac disease and may not eat any gluten products, we can ensure that we carry chickpea or rice flour for the preparation of your food, and you may find it advisable to bring along one or two of your favourite products as speciality non-gluten foods are not yet widely available in Nepal. If you are a lacto vegetarian, there are no problems at all in catering for your needs. However if you are vegan, you may wish to bring along an acceptable egg substitute, or some soya milk products to supplement the diet we can provide you with and which will allow us to offer you a varied menu.
It is extremely important that we be advised in the event of any food or nut allergies. Whilst we will obviously do our very best to make sure that you are not served anything to which you are allergic, the onus is upon the allergy sufferer to ensure that he/she does not eat anything that contains forbidden ingredients, by asking the cook/guide about the ingredients of any dish.
